How to Measure

Chest:

Measure just under your arms and across your shoulder blades, holding the tape firm and level. If your chest falls between sizes, order the next size up.

Natural Waist:

Bend side to side and find the natural bend in your body; this is your natural waist. Note: It may not be the smallest point.

Sizing doesn't sense
I ordered this for an 8 year old boy who is tall and usually wears size 12. Based on his weight (75 lbs) and height (51") he was between a Medium and a Large. Carhartt says that the Medium Boy's only fits to 60 pounds. But Large starts at 89 lbs. So where does 75 lbs fit in there? The size chart for this item also says to use a tape measure, but it gives no chest or length measurements, which is crazy. Most of us don't buy shirts and coats based solely on weight and height. Having received it and measured it, I can tell you with certainty that the Large is 26" long in the front (about 27" in back") and a whopping 40" across. It is a straight cut so the chest and hip measurements are the exact same 40" across. There is absolutely no give to this canvas fabric. This is obviously too big for my grandson. But it arrived with no paperwork so I don't know how easy or difficult it will be for us to exchange it. I ordered online from <a href="http://carhartt.com." target="_blank">carhartt.com.</a> Very disappointed and concerned that what was purchased as a wonderful gift is now a dud.
