Field Testing: Our All-New Women’s Jeans

Whether you’re in the rolling farmlands of rural Texas, deep in the concrete sprawl of the DFW Metro Area, or anywhere else hard work gets done, the right women’s jeans can make all the difference. That’s why we went back to the drawing board to redesign and rebuild our women’s denim from scratch.

By incorporating feedback from real working women and from customers like you, we think we’ve made the best women’s jeans you can get. To put our new styles to the test, we sent our crew back out into the field to see what ranchers, pit masters, contractors, and farmers think of the updated fits, cuts, and features.

Why the Mason?

Amaris is always doing something active. So the women’s slim jeans she's in need to move with her not against her. The Mason stretch denim construction gives the flexbility and mobility she needs to weave in and out of smokers, kitchens, and the ranch. But it's still durable enough to stand up to high heat that's over 200 degrees. And for someone who's always moving around, the high-rise pull-on waistband stays put—no matter how much dirt her four-wheeler kicks up.

Amaris has been running her family restaurant as pit master of Brown's BBQ for four years. Even though she went to school for nursing, she followed her passion for cooking and joined her dad in the barbecue scene. From splitting all of the wood for smoking and barbecue on their own ranch to serving up food to four-wheeling, Amaris is always working hard and on the move.

I would totally wear them if I was going country dancing, I would totally put them under my boots. I would wear them to work. I'd wear them if I was just walking around Austin. It's a good pair of jeans.

Why the Carpenter?

Jessica's job requires lots of movement. From mixing concrete to climbing in attics, she needs flex and durability that's not going to restrict her or get stuck. Jessica has always liked working with her hands, starting out in the Army, then becoming a hairdresser. But it wasn't until she joined her husband's Remodeling company that she found her passion. From demo sheetrock framing, tile backsplash, electrical plumbing, running duct work, and venting out hood vents, Jessica gets it done. It's no surprise she competed and placed 4th in Season 5 of CBS’s Tough as Nails. Her dedication, the example she sets as a mother, and hard work shows us what "tough" really looks like.

I like the fabric. It’s still denim, but it does have a lot of stretch. I get up and off the ground quite a bit, so if pants are super stiff, it makes it really uncomfortable. Being able to get up and down and move around in this fabric and still have it be a denim is amazing.

Why the Essential?

From the physical labor of all-day farming to presenting and selling to customers, Ashely needs a jean she can put to work and put her best foot forward in. The Essential women’s straight leg jean gives her the durability, stretch, and comfortable fit that she needs to bend, pull, twist and work on the ground. Enough pockets is a must to hold her long list of tools throughout the day. And it still needs to look and feel good when she's on the business side of farming.

Ashley has been growing food for over 10 years. What started as a hobby and a way to cope with the death of her mother turned into a career she shares with her children and community. Now she grows organically, regeneratively raised plants, as well as produce in small batches and teaches people how to grow their food and be more connected to where their food comes from

I want something that’s going to be very heavy-duty, because what I do is hard on my clothes. I don't want anything that's going to feel like it's going to have holes in it easily. I definitely need something that's going to give with all of the movement that I do and then I also want to make sure that it looks nice. I like to look nice while I farm and these look great.

Why the Tiller?

The best bootcut jeans for women walk a fine line. Just ask Deydra. “I like this bootcut because it’s snug around my boots, but it’s not too tight. It wasn’t difficult to get them on and it doesn’t have the flare boot cut.” Working on the ranch, she needs a leg opening that can easily fit over her boots without flaring. Too much loose fabric is a safety hazard and tucking excess fabric into a boot isn’t comfortable or functional. Deydra King comes from a legacy of 4th and 5th generation cattle ranchers. Now she runs S3 Legacy Ranch with her dad and brother. She’s proud to be one of the first black women in Texas to have a B Corporation set up for sustainable projects. Deydra works hard day in and day out and needs jeans that can keep up with her. We asked her to try our new women’s bootcut denim jean, the Tiller, and tell us what she thought.
