Almost perfect but still a good purchase.
There are a lot of great things about this jacket, but I'm going to address two minor issues regarding fitment and function.

Fitment:
It's not news that Carhartt jackets tend to run a bit big. It makes sense in some cases, especially when you're wearing layers and/or need to be active.

However, I'm a skinny guy at 5'5" 130lbs. I bought the smallest size and there's still a bit of room in the torso area so I feel "puffy" while wearing it.

The sleeves are a bit long and hangs down to my knuckles. I hated this at first but it came in handy when walking in the rain. I'd still prefer a shorter sleeve though.

Function:
I discovered one "flaw", if you can call it that. If your hands are in the pockets while out in the rain, water will trickle from the elbow area on the sleeve down INTO the pockets. I found that I had to angle my arms a bit to keep that from happening, but it was uncomfortable to do so.

Overall:
The issues noted above aren't dealbreakers. I would still recommend this jacket. For smaller and skinnier guys, the "Small" size might still feel too big. Regardless, this jacket has proven to keep me warm and...mostly...dry.

Great jacket
Great looking jacket, fits well, great pockets. Love that the hand pockets are fleece lined. Outer material seems tough and water resistant. Just wish the jacket was a little warmer. When it’s real cold I have to layer but I’d still buy it again. Also love the tarmac color

Is cut very short
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I had to re-order and get a tall size to fit my 6' tall son. Sleeves on the tall are a little long but the jacket length looks much better. I also lost another $20 on return shipping. Both orders did come quickly though, less than a week. Is a very nice jacket.

Steel vs Others
Replace the flimsy zipper with the heavy zipper; add a second chest zippered pocket. I am 6' 6" 255 lbs so the xlt is sized with room to move or a sweatshirt without bunching up under the coat.

Nice, Comfy, Warm
Zero complaints, flexibility is very nice, very comfortable, the quilted lining doesn’t feel as warm as the sherpa, but it is still very warm. Have not had the opportunity to try out the water resistance, but I can say I am happy with the initial fit and function. Really like that I can remove the hood, and it has a nice collar, just adds to the flexibility in uses. These jackets run large, so bump a size down for proper fit, I am XL in every other brand, but Carhartt shirts / jackets I am a Large.

Unfortunate fit
The regular-size jacket is too short, while the tall size is too long in the sleeves. Unfortunately I have sent mine back.

The jacket fits well and is quite warm. I haven’t needed to layer heavily underneath to stay warm in 20-30 degree temperatures. I like the detachable hood feature. The material is holding up well so far and the quality is on point.

I just bought this jacket and I wear a large and I got a large normal and the sleeve goes halfway past my hand and I was thinking of a medium tall would work cause a medium is small what would you think?
A shopper on Feb 3, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The sleeves are a bit longer on this jacket than others, which I actually like. Assuming the rest of the jacket is also too big, yeah, go for the medium. However, I'd give the zipper a try. You might want to just return the whole thing. The zipper on mine is completely non-functional. It jams immediately every time, so I can only button it.
I tried this jacket on in the store and the fit was perfect, except the sleeves were too long. I have seen some people mention the sleeves/cuffs fold up? Is this an intended design feature, or just a workaround for the long sleeves? Does it look ok when folded?
Ryan E on Jan 5, 2020
BEST ANSWER: It could be folded but I would recommend that you take it to a seamstress and have it professionally altered as it is an expensive and well made jacket.
What's the length difference in a 2XL Tall and a 3XL?
A shopper on Dec 21, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The center back length for the 2XL Tall is 31 1⁄2 inches and for the 3XL Regular 30 1⁄2 inches.
If I want the jacket to fit a little longer should I order a large tall?
A shopper on Dec 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The tall sizes will be two inches longer in the length of the jacket and the sleeve length.
How much longer must we wait for this coat to be available in size Medium (Tall)? / I'm 6'4" 190 lbs and the Large (Tall) is too large unless I wear a heavy sweatshirt under. Thanks! 😃
Jack C on Nov 20, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This style is not currently manufactured in size Medium Tall. We have forwarded this to our product team as suggestion to include this size.
Why does Google say the full swing steel jacket is 119.00 and when I called carhartt to order they said it was 179.00 ?
A shopper on Nov 18, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This style will be $159.99 – $174.99, however some retailers may have it for less.
Will it be offered in 3xlt tall?
A shopper on Nov 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: We do not expect to offer this style in size 3XL Tall at the time. However, we have forwarded this as a suggestion to our product team.
does the hood come with it?
ryan h on Dec 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This will come with a detachable hood.
Will it light on fire if hot sparks fall on it?
A shopper on Dec 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This item is not flame resistant.
Is the coat water proof?
A shopper on Dec 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This will not be waterproof.
I'm a 5'2" man with a medium build. Will the small size be too big for me?
Tommy N on Dec 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I'm a 5'9" man with a small build and the small coat has just a bit of wiggle room in it. The coat fits me perfectly and I love it. I'm sure Carhartt would exchange it if it didn't fit you right.
What is the difference between the full swing steel jacket and Cryder model? Which is warmer?
A shopper on Nov 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The jackets will be similar in warmth and styling. The Steel jacket also features Cordura in the fabric blend, known for its durability. The Steel jacket is also slightly longer.
I tried a small men's size on at the local store. Torso fit perfectly, but sleeves were way long (4" +/-). Anyone else have this problem?
A shopper on Nov 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes. I read your question before I purchased the jacket and hoped that maybe you had been sent the "tall" version. Nope. Mine came today and the sleeves are crazy long. I wear 32" sleeve length dress shirts and the small coat was a good 4 inches too long. Looked like a clown LOL. Yes, you can roll up the sleeves, but then you expose the soft nylon lining which will wick moisture and will wear quickly. No way I can keep this jacket. Sad.
What color is tarmac? Is it close to olive green? Thanks.
A shopper on Nov 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It’s like a mix of olive green, poop brown, and gravel gray blended together. It’s an interesting color that’s for sure.
The size guide says I’m a large. Should I order a size up if I want ample room for layering?
A shopper on Nov 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Our coats and jackets are over sized for layering purposes.
Is it fire resistant?
A shopper on Nov 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This style is not flame resistant.
Is the outer material as durable as the normal duck fabric?
A shopper on Nov 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I can't speak for long term but so far its holding up well. I'm a Lineman and dont have any, rips, tears, or scratches on this jacket yet. Even if it has 2/3rds the life expectancy as the normal duck fabric I'd still buy this one again. Incredible range of motion, very warm, and holding up well with constant wear for past few weeks
With a sweatshirt underneath, what do you think would be the coldest temperature to be comfortable in this jacket?
A shopper on Nov 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I just recently purchased this coat and was quite warm without a hoodie and only a tshirt underneath when it was 18 degrees here. I was walking around but that was about it, nothing too physical. I know that I am typically warmer than most people though. I'd say you would be safe at 18 or lower with a hoodie.
I am a little over 6 foot one and a hearty 230 lbs. Do I need an XL?
A shopper on Nov 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We would recommend going with your chest measurement and following our size and fit guide. If you need further sizing assistance, please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-833-3118.
Is this true to size?
A shopper on Nov 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this will run true to size.
I want this jacket but I am a small woman and it would be too big, does this come in women or youth? I especially like the fabric.
Angie on Oct 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, we do not have a kids or women's exact style. We would suggest checking out the Quick Duck Sawtooth Parka, style number 103236 as it does have a similar outer shell.
Is this warm enough for the winter?
A shopper on Oct 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This is not the warmest we offer, but many may consider this to be warm enough for the winter.
Is there any sort of lining in the lower hand-warmer pockets?
Davi S on Sep 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: yes, they finally lined pockets on one of their jackets, wish my Yukon extreme had lined as this does
