Want a rain repelling softshell? Keep looking.
This is my every day jacket; it's warm and comfortable with the exception of some awkwardness of doing the zipper up all the way. I've mostly been pleased with my purchase until I went for a short hike in the rain. This jacket did not repel the rain, it absorbed it. At the end of my hike my jacket weighed about 10lbs and nothing on me was dry (not a downpour, just steady light rain).
All in all, nice jacket, looks good but, don't count on it to keep you dry.

Excellent Jacket
I was looking for a new carhartt before the winter season here in Texas, something a little more rain resistant that my other quick duck jackets. Carhartt always creates reliable and durable jackets and this one is just that. A point was made of the over reaching zipper, might just be designed to accommodate people with longer necks. Sure it does rub up against my neck but they added a a soft material that goes from the top of the zipper down maybe 6in. Purchased the Crowley hooded jacket before December and it was a great decision.

Overall great jacket
The previous review has some points, the zipper goes very high but is ideal in cold weather covering the face when zipped up all the way this makes the hood stay on, and no hard hat required, works great in the rain and ideal for work or any activity outdoors in cold rainy weather.

Disappointing
At first glance this looks like a nice jacket. It appears to be well made and has a nice overall look.
However, there are a few problems. Firstly, there is no way to zip it up all the way comfortably, so it doesn't keep you very warm. Cold air enters around your neck/chest area and heat escapes.
Secondly, the hood is way too big with no real way to adjust it. It actually flops down to the end of my nose, covering my eyes. It may be designed to work with a helmet or hard hat, but does not specify this anywhere on the labeling.
All in all I wanted to like this jacket but I am very disappointed as it neither keeps you warm or dry when the weather gets bad.
