Not as good as the old (shoulder buckle) design. Bring that one back!
I have the previous harness design that buckled at the dog's shoulder blades, so I thought I'd try this one out for my new puppy since I like how the other one is holding up (2+ years, great condition). I like the quality, but the design of this one is inferior. It is much less anatomically conscious compared to the shoulder buckle one, which nicely distributes pressure on the chest of the dog when he pulls at either leash attachment points. This harness, no matter how I adjust it, puts pressure where the neck meets the chest, which is a super sensitive spot--causing my dog to cough if he pulls. The neck strap is angles down to try to avoid this, but that doesn't matter much in practice. It just rides up and restricts his airways. If your dog doesn't pull, it'll probably be fine, but my puppy is a Llewellin Setter who, upon seeing a a critter, does strain dramatically on the leash. Essentially, the "no pull" strategy that the harness employs by having a front clip to redirect movement is not safely effective for my pup. I like the idea of handle, though lifting/holding it also makes the front strap restrict his neck. I do like the purple color. I would like the other design in a purple. Overall a swing and a miss, in my opinion, though I'll still try the next version because I like the quality--and I'll order the old design on Amaz*n, until/unless Carhartt provides it here again.

Got one for my puppy when she was a couple weeks old. She's worn it everyday all day until bed .i took her to the vet and a dog tried to attack her. Luckily she had the harness on and I was able to grab the harness and lift her fast and safe. She was out running with another dog at a family members house. While running she hit a boat propeller and it hit the harness on the bag and ripped about an inch but didn't got all the way through. It saved my dog from stitches. Very durable as long as it stays out of your dogs mouth as it's not a chew toy. If you're responsible and keep an eye on your dog it's worth the buy.

She ate it..
It worked really well for my 11 month old mutt. I plan on buying another later but she ate the straps last night? no clue how she managed that but until she actually learns to not eat any I'm sticking with a cheep harness. When she learns to not eat em' any more she'll get her Carhartt back.
