Very functional jacket! Well worth the money.
The inner liner is warm on its own, and attaching the outer shell makes things even warmer and water resistant. The shell and liner both look good. The jacket runs a bit large but that is how all Carhartt clothes run, so just buy a size down (I'm a medium so I bought a small), but I'm pretty skinny and noticed that although the length was perfect, with both layers on it didn't leave much room around the stomach, so if you're of a heavier weight or larger build I'd recommend sticking to your usual size and not sizing down so you have a comfy fit. A solid, high quality build plus several useful details and features make this an overall great purchase.

Very modern and active jacket!
Both jackets are warm and break wind very well. When put together they make sub zero degree weather seem like a breeze. Able to move freely and survive the coldest of temperatures. Could even stand next to my ex girlfriend and her cold hear and still feel warm and fuzzy. Recieved many compliments on both the inner and outer shell.

Very warm and comfortable
Extremely warm jacket and very well built. It is a heavy jacket so only to be used when it's real cold or windy and rainy. I'm outside in zero degree weather for 10 hours a day and stay very warm. Awesome jacket for the money

Awesome cost
Super durable and weather resistant, perfect for hard shipyard and dock work. This coat best fits where you need abrasion resistance in intermittent or light rain/sleet/mist/snow; for a down pour, you'd probably want a true raincoat. Great jacket overall; convenient pockets, I like the wrist and waist gussets. I'm 5'9" 160lbs and a small has plenty room for layers given my preference for a trim, athletic fit.

I purchased the jacket for my boyfriend and gave it to him early because it got cold. He is extremely particular and is loving the jacket. He loves the fit and the amazing amounts of pockets. He had looked at it in the store so I knew it would be perfect and it is.

The Sawtooth Active Jac is absolutely incredible!
I've worn Carhartt jackets exclusively for the last 20 plus years and again you've outdone yourselves. I've had 3 different styles of your jackets over the years and have always been very impressed with the quality of your products. I have a Quick Duck jacket and its warm and very comfortable but this Sawtooth Active Jac is the best jacket I've ever owned. It's perfect for extreme cold but you can also zip the lining out for days that aren't brutal cold. I was on the fence about the hood but I love it. It's so nice when you get out of the truck and it starts raining to be able to put your hood up and keep on going. Kudos to Carhartt once again for creating a jacket that works in all weather that looks cool too. I got 18 years out of my last Carhartt so this one might outlast me. Thanks Carhartt!!

Good jacket
Haven’t put it to the test yet but seems to be a great jacket. Like that it has the removable liner, basically two coats for one.

The Sawtooth is a Cold Cutter !!!
Great Coat definitely a win against the cold, rain and wind as I already had it on in a nasty storm over the last few days and gave it a run for my money. Hands down the best coat in regards to quality I've owned. I would've gave it 5 stars if the material of the coat didn't grab a hold of so much dust and lint. Ive had to use the lint brush 3x 8n 5 days ........Besides that awesome.

This jacket can be good for Canadian winter .??
A shopper on Sep 22, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Not sure - never went through a Canadian winter. It is very warm. My problem when I sweat and the jacket did not breath so went I took off the jacket it was wet between me and the liner.
does the inner jacket really have 250g of insulation ?
A shopper on Aug 28, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The liner jacket is filled with 3M 700 fill featherless down.
Is it usable without the liner for spring weather?
A shopper on Apr 19, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it can be used without the liner for spring weather.
I read that it has 250g thinsulate lining. I know this is a synthetic insulation. I read that 250g thinsulate is equivalent to 650fp goose down. Is that true? Glad to see the coat is windproof but i’m assuming that you have to be wearing both liner/shell for that. Unless the liner is windproof too. Wish carhartt would offer the liner as a separate purchase.
Mary T on Feb 29, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I do not equivalent of thinsulate vs fp goose down. I finally wore the jacket in cold weather here in California. What I did discover is the synthetic liner does not breath. So, when I sweat it does not evaporate and I have to remove jacket an wipe down liner with a towel. Before wearing jacket again.
Is the liner of this jacket waterproof and breathable ?
A shopper on Feb 18, 2020
BEST ANSWER: No, it is not.
Is the hood removable?
A shopper on Dec 9, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The hood is attached to the shell. The liner will not have a hood.
Can you buy replacement liner for coats?
Kelly Z on Dec 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: At this time, we will not have replaceable liners to purchase.
Can you remove the hood? If so can you hide the snaps or zipper?
Gdietz on Nov 28, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The hood will not be removable.
are the zippers metal or plastic ?
A shopper on Nov 27, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Plastic but very good quality. My prev jac I used for a 9 years, and no issue with zippers.
Is the zippers metal or plastic?
A shopper on Nov 26, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The inner layer is metal zipper.
Will this keep me dry in pretty heavy rain?
A shopper on Nov 25, 2019
BEST ANSWER: My husband bought these just in time for some very heavy rain on the verge of snow. He said they kept him dry and warm. So glad he invested the money. He bought both the jacket and pants. He climbs cell phone towers for a living so he is very exposed to the elements.
Will this jacket come in colors other than black in the future?
A shopper on Nov 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: We appreciate your feedback and will forward your suggestion to our Product Design Team for future consideration.
What is the back length of the outer shell size large?
A shopper on Nov 20, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The center back length will be 28 1⁄2" for a large.
What is the back length of this jacket? Specifically size Large, of the outer shell
A shopper on Nov 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The center back length for the size large regular is 28 1⁄2 inches.
Is hood either removable and/or can it be tucked into the collar?
Steve C on Nov 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The hood will not be removable and can not be tucked in.
Could I use the Gilliam jacket as a liner for this?
Andrew C on Nov 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The 250g thinsulate liner that is inside the sawtooth active jac is gonna be way warmer then the Gilliam which only has 100g polyester insulation. I’m sure you could wear the Gilliam but why wear something that isn’t gonna be as warm underneath?
What temperature will this jacket keep you warm up to?
A shopper on Nov 13, 2019
BEST ANSWER: We do not temperature rate our garments because everyone has a different threshold for what they consider to be warm. However, but we do categorize them as warm, warmer or warmest. This will be one of our warmest jackets.
Carhartt why don’t you offer this in tall sizes? I’m 6’6” and would love a jacket like this but I’m not going to buy anything that’s not tall size
A shopper on Nov 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: We appreciate your feedback and will forward your suggestion to our Product Design Team for future consideration.
Is this windproof?
A shopper on Nov 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the outer layer has a thick nylon duck feel to it
