I want my old RO1's!!!!!
I have been wearing RO1's daily for over a decade. I like some of the updates to these new overalls but I prefer my old ones. I don't mind the flat shelf on the front pockets- that's nice for a tape measure, but these pockets are WAY TOO SMALL!!!!!!!! If I am going to continue buying carhartt overalls I will need to pay for custom tailoring to have the pockets enlarged. The elastic on the side has broken and failed on me after minimal wear (because I prefer my old ones these get relegated to laundry day). The shoulder strap latches are more difficult to engage than the original- this is perplexing. I like the reinforced cuffs. The pockets are my biggest gripe. WAY TOO SMALL!!!!!!!!!!

Carhartt, What Are/Were You Thinking?
Why is it that companies, when they have a great product, think they have to change it? Seriously, Carhartt, what were you thinking? I loved the old R01s. I went to buy new ones and this is what I find. I am not impressed.

There is simply no reason to have changed the pattern from the original R-01s. If you wanted to improve them, you could have, for example, made the rear pockets about an inch squared larger. Also, the hardware you use for the straps should use a combination rounded metal as well as pressed. The pressed metal creates an effect similar to a very dull knife and it begins to wear the duck loops out on the bib portion. By using a rounded part attached to the loop instead of the pressed metal, you can help to eliminate that wear.

It's been said, many times over, that Carhartt prides themselves on quality products. I've worn your products for decades. So, why did you feel the need to change to this new pattern/style and do away with the old style? Please bring back the old style R01s! If you feel this new style is the way to go, fine, give them their own R number and keep the R01s the way they were.

Regretfully, I most likely won't be buying anymore Carhartt overalls. :(

DO NOT BUY!! NEW DESIGN IS TERRIBLE
The new design is TERRIBLE!!! I don’t know who designed them but I will NEVER purchase them again and I usually buy 1-3 pairs a year for the past 13 years. The chest pockets are garbage, you can’t bend over to tie your boots without everything coming out of the pockets. The waist pockets are way to short, can’t even put a roll of electrical tape in them without the tape almost coming out the sides. But that is not the worst, the side pockets are now, for some strange reason, exact opposite to what they were before. Double pocket is now on the left and the single pocket with hammer loop is on the right. I now have to reach around to my left side to grab my linesman pliers and strippers. I am always double stacking my tools now one my right side accidentally. I strongly advise that the old design come back, these bibs are not in any way practical for any working man or woman. But hey as long as they look good on the models right?
11 in 1 now on the opposite side. Maybe good for a left handed person
A role of electrical tape barely fits in the pockets

Seriously?
These have been my go-to for years, and now they're being discontinued so that you can introduce something "new"? You've lost another customer who would have stuck with you until I didn't need overalls anymore, if that ever happens. See ya!

You shouldn't have messed with success.
I've been wearing R01 Carhartts since high school. That was 40 years ago. They're perfect. I generally burn through 2-3 pair each year with heavy ag and industrial use. They're rugged but I abuse them.

32x36 Levi 517s translates to 34x32 R01 bibs worn - naturally - over the top of jeans.

Unfortunately the updated bibs are pretty awful. The original R01s have been discontinued and it looks like Carhartt is in the process of changing their other bibs over to the same horrible Euro-ish styling. What in the world are you people thinking?

these are Garbage. Bring back the originnal R01
For 20 years I faithfully purchased, wore and loved the ORIGIONAL R01 overalls both to work and at home. These NEW REDESIGNED overalls are DISAPOINTING.
So disapointing I will NEVER purchase another pair.
Reasons = new elastic panels at the waist strech and do not hug your hips, making all the weight of the overalls rest on the sholder straps.
New cut of the front pockets along with the reduced depth of the pocket alows tools to fall out.
New design of the chest pocket is practicaly usless. The New slimmer fitting leg dosent alow for good range of movment,
The new metal sholder strap hardware is hard to engage / disingage.
The new added material to the cuff is pointless and just adds unessary weight.

I will admit when i heard Carhartt had made improvments to the R01 i was excited, but the resulting product is very sub par and not as good as the origional.
The origional R01's were definitaly designed for the working man, I have no idea who this new version was designed for?
Hopefully enought people feel the same way I do and write enough emails and bad reviews to the point that Carhartt takes notice and brings back the ORIGIONAL R01.

Fantastic overalls. I will be getting more.
These are fantastic. They provide a strong, protective layer that is also comfortable. They are great for winters as a heavy equipment operator in southern Ontario as they have enough room to have other layers underneath or wear them as is, if you run a little hot.
Sizing properly requires you to order one size shorter in the in seam (I normally have a 32 in seam but have a 30 in these) but once you have this figured out you are set. They don't bind at all and have a great range of motion.
I really like the lack of exposed sharp edges on the chest (no zipper) so I don't have to worry about scratching finished painted surfaces. The brass snaps are classic and functional.
They release grease stains well with a bit of liquid dish detergent and hold colour well through repeated washings. They get a little softer and a but more faded with repeated wear and washings but keep a professional look.

Order 2 sizes up + take note of no exchanges
These run small and very snug. As a previous review said, order 2 sizes up. My husband wears a 38x34 in carpenter jeans and these would split the seams if he tried to bend over.

Carhartt has a horrible return only policy, so to exchange size is a huge headache when gifting. 2 stars just for the absolutely lame policy coupled with small sizing.

LOVE
I would absolutely recommend these. In fact, I do recommend them every time I wear them and someone comments on them. I have them in navy blue which looks really good. These are built to last, built like a tank. They fit well and I feel like I can do anything in these.

Why the heck would they get rid of this product? Been wearing the r01's for many years and buy 4 to 6 pairs a year, as do my many co-workers, friends, and family. Not a single person I know is happy with the replacement. Now, I'm forced to find a different alternative. Unbelievable. I hope they reconsider.

WHAT THE HECK HAPPEN TO THE ORIGINAL RO1 DUCK? NEW VERSION IS MISSING LEFT AND REAR HAMMER HOOP, THE UPPER POCKETS ARE SMALLER , THE UPPER ZIPPER POCKET IS NOT USABLE DUE TO EVERYTHING JUST PILES UP IN THE BOTTOM AND YOU HAVE TO MESS AROUND DIGGING FOR IT. ALSO MAKES THE SMALL FRONT POCKETS WHERE MOST SMALL TOOLS ARE KEPT UNUSABLE AND CUMBERSOME. RIGHT HAMMER HOOP ONLY OVER THE ONE SMALL POCKET? THIS JUST DOES NOT WORK IN THE FIELD. GO BACK TO MAKING THE ORIGINAL WITH ALL THE HOOPS AND DUAL LEG POCKETS BOTH SIDES AND STANDARD CHEST POCKETS FOR THE WORKING MAN . NOT FOR FASHION. I HAVE RAN THESE FOR 20 YEARS AND FULLY GEARED AND TOOL LOCATION BY HABIT. NOW NOTHING IS RIGHT. STUMBLING THROUGH MY WORK DAYS LOOKING FOR TOOLS. IF YOU WANT A CELL POCKET, PUT IN ON THE INSIDE OF CHEST AREA AT BELLY OUT OF HARMS WAY. THAT'S WHERE I ADDED ONE. LOOKS LIKE I WILL BE PAYING TO MODIFY THE NEW VERSION OR SWITCHING BRANDS.

Purchasing for my 23 yr old son. He wears either 30 or 32 length depending on brand. What is suggested length for the unlined duck bib overall?
A shopper on Nov 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We recommend going with your normal inseam length for this style. For further assistance with sizing please contact our Customer Service Department.
Currently own the B06 duck bibs with a 36 waist and 32 inseam. The leg opening measures 10.5 inches when laying flat. The rest of the leg is so wide compared to my Carhartt duck pants (various styles) with the leg opening measuring 8.5 inches when laying flat. Love wearing bibs, but the legs are way too wide. Do any of the unlined duck bibs have narrower legs, closer to the regular leg opening of duck pants? If so, which style(s)?
Robert on Oct 26, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Style 102776, the updated take on the Duck Bib Overall/Unlined, has a slightly narrower leg opening than style R01. The Rugged Flex Bib 102987 has a narrower leg opening than both styles.
How do the clips work?
A shopper on Sep 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Right-hand strap: Twist the (right) strap end to point at 3:00 and hold the female clip perpendicular to the male clip on the overalls. Insert the male clip into the female clip then twist the strap towards you pointing at 6:00. Release both ends.

Left-hand strap: Twist the (left) strap end to point at 9:00 and hold the female clip perpendicular to the male clip on the overalls. Insert the male clip into the female clip then twist the strap towards you pointing at 6:00. Release both ends.

I’ve looked for a diagram of what the hooks and pocket features were originally intended for and can’t find one. I want to know what the design intentions were. For example, what’s the little slit in the chest pocket for? A name tag?

What would you suggest for a 16 year old who is doing Trap shooting?
A shopper on Mar 31, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes I would get my son those unlined bibs for the trap shooting... The bibs hold enough heat but he won’t get over heated in them ,and the open shoulder and freedom he would have for his shooting will be great for him.. I hope this comments help you in what your looking for, and good luck to you son in his shooting.. Thanks Vann
