Once I had to go out in a hurricane downpour with this coat and the matching bibs to get something for someone and even though it was raining heavily this coat and matching bibs kept me dry so if I have to go outside during a heavy downpour again I will be prepared. I also like the 3 pockets on it and the way you can layer with it for cold weather use. It is a little heavy but that is no problem for me. The only downside I have to say about it is that since it is PVC and doesn't have vent holes it makes me sweat when worn for extended periods of time but I just open the front to keep cool. I would recommend this coat and matching bibs to anyone who needs to spend long hours in the rain. Also I have to say this would be extremely hard to rip or destroy.
I am a grower in the greenhouse/nursery industry. I bought this jacket for working in the rain. The jacket is stated to be water proof however after working in the rain for just 10mins my back started to feel wet. The whole back part of the jacket and hood were wet. How is it considered waterproof when water soaks through. I've always bought carhartt work clothes because of the quality however this jacket is making me consider purchasing a different brand
got this coat as a gift and was pleasantly surprised by the way it shielded me from the cold wind while working fourty feet up in the air in an aerial lift.then the rain came and I started get wet down my back.not sure where it was leaking from but ended up getting wet arms too. seems that the inside may be attracting moisture that forms from somewhere. good button down good size good strength not happy with moisture inside my rain coat
Best rain gear I've ever owned. I used mine when I was a field rep with a water treatment company. It was somewhat stiff due to the thickness of the material, but that's also what made it great for industrial settings. It was almost indestructible! Other, cheaper rain gear I had purchased over the years would never hold up. This rain gear worked for me for several years until changing careers.
My first two Surrey rain coats were great. Someone at work decided to walk off with my last good one last winter. The replacement I purchased gave me a wet back and wet arms in a moderate rain the first time I wore it. Returned it to store I purchased it from, who replaced it, the second coat leaked too, not quite as bad. Sent the second defective coat back to Carhartt, who took about two months to send a coat that retails $ 20 less. I own parkas, coats, vests, bibs, pants, shirts, hats, socks etc. from Carhartt and have never had such a bad experience.
Bought this for its waterproof rating and it felt like a heavy duty coat for rainwear. After a 1/2 hour I was soaked from the rain everywhere. Avoid this if you want a waterproof jacket. Not what I expected from CARHARTT.
If you want a rain coat that is completely waterproof, then this is a good choice. That comes with a price.. its not entirely breathable and you will be hot if it is warm out. It has been my experience that the breathable jackets will get wet and are generally good for lighter rain. I use this jacket for salmon/trout fishing in a boat where I'm sitting in the wide open and its usually 40-70 degrees out. But if it rains, hard or light, this jacket will keep you dry.
It's not breathable at all. I had a full set when I was an field rep for a water treatment company. It will keep you warm and dry from external elements, but it is water tight and well constructed so no, it doesn't breath, but it was by far the best rain gear I ever owned. I bought 9 sets for our chemical handling PPE here at the plant.
It is not breathable but both my wife and I have managed to stay nice and comfortable when we ride. We use ours to go rzr riding so will only use them if the rain starts coming down. We have both the jacket and bib and have been very happy with them.
