I purchaced this item about a week ago and when it arrived, i was really excited because winter is coming and so is the cold weather. I have had a similar carhartt jacket before and i loved it. Sadly, i was dissapointed becuase i am normally an adult small, but when i tried it on, i couldnt even zipper it. So now i will have to send it back and order a new one before the snow comes.
Best Carhartt coat ever owned. I am retiring mine after eight winters of service on my dairy farm. the hood and the tail are the best parts, plus it fit just right from day one and always kept me warm.
This has been my go-to jacket for over 6 years. It's perfect for temperatures of 40-60*F with a T-shirt on underneath and as low as 20* with a sweatshirt underneath. I wore this jacket through 4 years of college in Connecticut winters and 2 more back home in rural Pennsylvania. The quality is outstanding. In 6 years of heavy use I've noticed nothing but slight wear on the cuffs and slight color fade indicative of a well-seasoned coat. The extra fabric below the arms allows for great range of motion without sacrificing a fashionable fit on the body. I'm 5'9" 200lb with 44" chest and the L size is perfect. I highly suggest this jacket.
Here in Oregon.. this is about the most necessary coat you'd ever own. Ducking holds up as well as possible, which is water resistant and will never stand a leak. Lining is perfect and will keep you warm 100% of the time, and the coat is overall a great one. I am 6 foot 1 and 200lbs, I wear a Large Tall, and it fits perfectly, roomy and comfortable. a must have for anyone in a cold or wet climate.
So stylish my wife picked it out for me!! I noticed as an extra bonus the inside pockett has a slanted zipper for a small concealed carry for a right handed shooter! The wind does not go through this coat and or hood!!!
Tried on an XL at my local hardware store and it was too short. Got on the website when I got home and ordered and XLT and it fits perfect! (I'm 6'4" and 260lbs.) this coat is the perfect mix of comfortable and tough. I tend to put jackets through the ringer as a commercial fisherman and this thing holds up amazingly. My only complaint is that it is really, really warm and it hasn't been cold enough to wear it more! Thanks Carhartt for making a quality product.
I bought this jacket for my son and he loved it! He already had a carhartt jacket that we bought him a few years ago but he wears it for work (construction) and of course he has caulk and paint all over it so we thought we would buy him another one. I would recommend all carhartt products! Can't beat the quality.
I've owned a few Carhartt jackets not because of unreliability or poor quality but just growing out of them. This jacket is one of my more recent purchases and I have yet to be disappointed with it. It still is a reliable Carhartt product yet has a new style with a different insulation. In my opinion it seems to be more lightweight than Carhartt's traditional jackets, which I like and yet still just as warm. I can confidently say that any Carhartt Jacket is made to last for years.
The Sandstone Sierra Jacket is the best jacket that I have ever worn, and it is probably the best jacket I will ever own. This jacket is incredibly warm, and it blocks wind very well too. It is incredibly comfortable, and I can wear it all day. It has five pockets in easy to reach places, with three on the outside and two on the inside. It is incredibly convenient and comfortable and I would recommend this jacket to anyone.
I just purchased my second sandstone sierra jacket with the sherpa lining, not because the first needed to be replaced but because a Large Tall fits perfect, my first coat was a hand-me-down and is an XL Tall and was big in the body. I am 6'2" and 195 lbs and a Large Tall fits perfect. There is room to layer up underneath and there is plenty of length in the sleeves and body.
My only issue with the coat is the zipper seems to be a bit cheaper than older carhartts, not sure if this is because they are being made in Mexico now or what but it is not as smooth as other coats.
I have never worn this coat in rain so i'm not sure how well it sheds water but I wear it all winter through snow storms and its nice and warm. I typically layer up under it with a hoodie and down vest on cold days (-20c or colder).
Huge fan of the storm cuffs and prefer the non-elastic waist (as seen on the bomber jackets) as it never rides up on the waist. Good storage in the pockets. The only change I would make is to have large, square, deep pockets with flaps and velcro versus the side slit style.
Overall, my favorite jacket that I have ever owned. Great product.
I just purchased this jacket as a replacement to the "store brand" jacket of the same style. That jacket I went through 3 with in just a couple years because the zippers keep falling apart. I figured it's was probably smarter to replace it with a Carhartt instead of wasting more money on cheap look-alikes. This isn't my first Carhartt I have 2 others, but in the arctic lining. One is old (it's a 100th anniversary year coat) the other is the same style (C003) only newer but that one too is over 10 years old. Both are still in great shape and extremely warn. So I know what to expect in the way of quality. I like having a jacket that's a little lighter and "less warn" for days that are not extremely cold. Not that this one isn't warn, I'm comfortable in this jacket even down to the single digits.
in all the stores the J141's were fitted with the lighter color lining (like pictured). But I could not find my size so on-line ordering was needed, When I first received my jacket I was a little confused because the sherpa lining was dark, almost black in color. Not a bad look at all, just didn't look right at first. The darker color sherpa lining seems a little more lofty, more of a thicker fur it seems. But now with this one I'm hoping for the same quality as my old coats, and looking forward to another Carhartt to be used for over 24 years...
I am 5' 9 ish have a large neck and chest for my height so I went with the Large Regular. I really like the style of the J141, and the sherpa lining that even extends into the attached hood as well as the overall high-quality construction of this jacket. It fits very well up top and doesn't inhibit arm movement at all. I personally prefer the Carhartt's with bi-swing backs and pleated elbows, they fit me better. I also have a bit of a gut and because of that I tend to wear longer untucked shirts, therefore the lower front of this jacket is a bit short and a little tight for me and are my only complaints with this otherwise excellent jacket. If you primarily wear jeans, tuck in your shirts and are looking for a stylish lower-cut Fall/ lighter Winter jacket that is made well you will be very happy with the J141.
Purchased this jacket right after hurricane Ike I wore all through high school, college and got into the oilfield and have been using it since Works just as good as the day I bought it Only wear has been in the cuffs but nothing drastic This jacket has held up great
I design large data centers and am frequently crawling around these sites during construction. As such, nylon and modern synthetic jackets just don't cut it in my field. Many years ago I witnessed the construction crews building my centers all wearing Carhartts. Once you buy one, you'll know why...they are outstanding jackets for the money and just seem to get better with age. I also own an oil-finished jacket from 'another' jacket company that costs 5 times what the Carhartt costs and it's not a bit better; it offered some hunting features I wanted (game pocket) but it's fit and quality aren't worth the increased cost. Carhartts just work...the fact that they're reasonably priced just make it that much better!
I bought this item awhile ago for myself, and I love it! The sherpa lining makes the coat really warm (especially the hood lining!). It fits close to the body at the waist to keep cold air out and is roomy in the chest/shoulders/arms to allow for layers and keep warm air in. As a woman, I also like the unisex styling and long sizes (I am 6'1"). My mom just bought the same coat for my dad for Christmas and he loves it, too!
We purchased this jacket for our son before he left for a semester in school in Anchorage, AK. He has certainly enjoyed the sherpa lining and it is much warmer than the North Face he has been wearing. We actually bought two of your jackets for him...the other being the Waterproof Breathable 3-in-1 Parka. Both were excellent purchases for the weather he is experiencing in Anchorage.
This was my first Carhartt purchase and I am hooked for life. This is by far the best jacked I have ever owned. The craftsmanship is superior and this jacket is made to last. The Sherpa lining makes this jacket a must have for those cold days and even those days that aren’t that cold. Wore this jacket at a football game where it snowed, sleeted and rained and never got wet or cold. I looked at the Duck cloth jackets as well but as soon as I found the sandstone ones I knew this was the one I had to have. After washing the jacket it looks like I’ve had it for years. I loved this jacket so much I had to go this winter and purchase the matching bibs. If you are considering this jacket purchase it you will not be sorry.
This jacket was the best gift I could have given my boyfriend. With harsh weather conditions such as the cold, it was perfect. The durability is outstanding also. He was overly pleased when he recieved this! Will be back for more purchases!
Firstly, it's a Carhartt. Secondly, it truly is the best jacket I've ever owned. I work in the equine reproduction field so I'm constantly in rough conditions out in the rain and mud working with stallions, foals, and mares. That jacket has been trampled, bitten, and beaten. It's been to heck and back and is still in great condition after three years. Comfort, warmth, and durability are but three things this jacket has to offer.
I bought this coat last winter and after a year of heavy use - I have to say it is my favorite piece of winterwear I have ever owned.
The features that appealed to me were the long tail in the back, the tailored cuffs with the elasic on the inside (genius!) and the warm, comfy sherpa lining.
After a year of forestry work in the extreme cold and many long days of farm chores -- I love this coat!! Not only is it very, very water resistant, comfortable and warm, but it looks great! No more boxy winter coats for me, the fit is excellent. I'm able to do anything from cutting down large trees to running a hydroseeder tanker.. or just riding my horses.
I love this coat so much I'm going to buy a second one for "clean" days, and keep the one I have as my working jacket. THUMBS UP!
I got this coat my Seventh Grade year of school. That was seven years ago. I had to get this coat because I caught on fire in my other carrhart but the coat stopped the flames. My coat is still in great shape after workin on a Brick laying crew and about four washing a year. It has fadded out and starting to show wear. But over all it still keeps me warm. Its light weight compared to other coats Best coat ever, I will buy another
Is it the style or the warmth I love most? I cant decide..This Jacket has both! Its durable, stylish and very warm and has a rugged look and feel to it. Very comfortable. Really allows me to move about freely. My 21 and 25 yr olds own the same jacket(although in diff colors) so I know it must feel great and look great. Can truly say its the best winter jacket Ive ever owned.
I bought this Jacket for myself. Wanted a jacket to hold up to everday use, with style, warmth and comfort. I got what I was looking for and more. The hood and the sherpa lining is a must. Jacket will keep the cold and wind off your neck and head to help with keeping you warm. When weather is warmer lay the hood back and unzip jacket a bit and your just as comfortable. Jacket is rugged however stylish. I plan on buying more Carhartt products with sherpa lining. You will want to also after you've worn this jacket a few times.
I am a commercial/residential electrician of 6 years now and I have always trusted Carhartt clothing for style, durability and function. I have owned and worked in this jacket for about 3 years now on the job and it has yet to "blow out" Not only does it fit and look great, but it really does work as hard as you do. I highly recommend this jacket, I love the drop tail and the storm cuffs. Well worth every penny.
This jacket is amazing...it is rugged and durable, good looking, and fits like a glove. I'm so thankful I made this purchase as it is more than I could have asked for. My money was well spent. It definitely keeps me warm when the weather is COLD outside. Thank you for making a product that exceeds expectations.
Excellent product, purchased 2 one for me and one for my husband. Love the longer back panel to keep lower back coverd while bending and lifting. Warm, comfortable, excellent wind blocker with deep pockets. Best medium weight jacket we've ever owned. Excellent on cold crisp mornings, unzip as the day warms, and rezip as the day cools off, good water repellency. Only draw back....would like in red or blue.
I work an average of 12-16 hrs a day outside at work. I went with this jacket by accident because they didn't have my size in the quilted lined jacket (J140). I couldn't be happier that I did. This jacket is great. Extremely comfortable and seriously warm. It felt a little tight in the waist when I first got it, but once I got used to the snug fit it was fine. I actually appreciate the cut now. I can access my tool belt with minimum fabric bunching up and in the way. I just got a buddy of mine to pick one up as well. He dumped his North Face jacket for this one.
I love this jacket! I wear the jacket all the time even in warm and hot weather. Its a really durable. Cleans easy. me and my friends tested it with a pellet gun to, it did fine from 5ft away, untill we pumped it 10 times let just say i had to go to the hospital to get the bullet out my back, its not made to be shot at, so dont do it.
I was accustomed to the duck carhartt for years. I just received my sandstone sierra with the sherpa liner. all I can say i wow i really like this coat! comfort, warmth, style, functionality, and of course carhartt quality that will last for years to come! I especially like the cuffs, excellent for wearing gloves with out exposing your wrist to the elements. One thing I wll say and I agree with another review, the zipper could be of a heavier duty, but it serves the purpose.
This jacket was a purchase I made last December. I have had other Carhartts and tried other brands. I have learned my lesson and always come back to Carhartt. This jacket is comfortable, warm, stylish and affordable. As far as the durability of this jacket goes, only time will tell. Judging by what I see, I have no reason to doubt it. The only thing I would change about this jacket is the zipper. I would use a heavier zipper similar to the one in my field coat.
I recieved this jacket as a present this past Christmas. Over the past couple of weeks i have learned to love this jacket due to the extreme cold that has come with the weather. This jacket has kept me incredibly warm and also has incredibly durability. This is definately a great purchase and i would definately recommend this for any of my friends!!!
Very nice jacket. It offers great wind protection and is a good all around jacket in most temperatures. I wear it even on extermely cold days. The only issue is that the zipper could be more heavy duty but it does the job. I would recommend this jacket.
I needed a new jacket for work and when I tried on this one I new I would be warm this winter. I work on roof in all types of weather. This jacket has keep me warm and dry. This jacket has been so great that I bought another one for home.
I'm not in the construction business so I certainly don't need the superior durability of Carhartt clothing, but that doesn't mean I can't buy what I want. My only prior purchase from Carhartt was an insulated coverall that is tough as nails. I wanted something along the lines of a jacket for casual wear. The sandstone finish makes this noticeably softer than my coverall which I really appreciate. I bought the jacket in black to be a bit more stylish than the brown. The fleece lining makes it quite warm for a hoody-style jacket.
I bought this product for a friend for his bday. I have one just like it that i bought a year ago and after hearing my friend needed a good jacket, i had to get him one of these. This jacket should last us years to come!!
