Excellent Cold Weather Work Coat
My wife just bought me the "Sandstone Jacket/Coat" for my birthday as I needed a tough but warm coat to protect me while working in the cold. There is no doubt that Carhartt is the leader when it comes to tough, durable workwear. This coat fits well (sizes seem true) and is sufficiently warm. The pocket sizes and layout are convenient and with velcro closures; they stay put to keep things where they belong. The zipper on the coat is no "wimp" and is probably one of the best features. The overall quality of this coat is such that you know that it will last a long time, even under conditions that would probably send most other coats to an early end. I give this coat two thumbs up and heartily endorse it to anyone looking for a good investment in work outerwear.

Real Winter Protection
It wasn't clear on the internet whether or not this was a coat for real cold weather. Here in New England we just finished the coldest February ever - and I mean in all of recorded weather statistics (back to 1903, I believe) there has never been a colder month.

The Carhartt coat is really warm. At sub-zero temperatures it keeps you warm. It keeps me significantly warmer than the coat it replaced, and I would not expect any weather which would be too cold for this coat. It is heavy (I mean it weighs a lot) - not a real negative because of the job it has to do - but worthy of comment. This is no light-weight jacket.

The lining is excellent, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who has to deal with cold weather especially if windy. But it is not a "spring" coat - it is very heavy and warm.

Exceptional Quality - Ideal For The Coming Ice Age
This coat wears like armor. The sherpa lining is warm and comfortable. I'd recommend that if they were to alter the design at all, that Carhartt might consider lining the sleeves with a non-synthetic material to reduce sweating. The storm cuffs don't allow for any ventilation which is good if it's sub-zero... sweat inducing if it's a little above. A fabric that wicks would be great in the sleeves. The coat blocks the harshest of winds. Montreal winds coming off of the St Lawrence can cut you in two but with this coat on, you'd barely notice there's a breeze. It's unbelievable at how efficient the coat blocks the wind. The construction of the coat is absolutely stellar. I'm not a fan of the velcro closures on the exterior pockets although it 's there for functionality rather than fashion. The brass zipper is a beast and easy to operate with gloved hands. Likewise the zippered pockets offer a safe place for valuables (cell phone, etc). Be forewarned, the coat runs a bit large... not an issue if you plan to wear a sweatshirt or sweater under it. If not, you may want to consider going down one size if you're on the cusp between different sizes. I debated on getting a Large over an XL but I spoke to a Carhartt Expert who sold me on the XL. In hindsight, I think the Large might have been a better choice but I'm still happy with the coat. It's a tad roomy but not to the point of exchanging for a smaller size... besides, there's no guarantee that a Large would be a tad too small. Overall, a fantastic coat and highly recommended by a friend to the North.

Great Value
This was a gift for my son, the first one I ordered was a large regular, It was short and I had to send it back, I received a refund for the coat within 7 days., I ordered the large tall and it fit him nicely. (He is 6'2", 190lbs ) The workmanship of this coat is impressive. Made to be durable as well as stylish.. He loves it and wears it every day.

Fits like a tailor made garment
This jacket fits like it was made for my brother. It is a very finely made jacket. It provides a little more length than the average jacket but not too long. It is very strong and durable in fabric. Most important it provides the hugging warmth you are looking for.

Great Coat/Jacket
I like the features, the sherpa lining, pockets and I appreciate the longer length. I chose this for a casual parka rather then a work jacket. Very warm and practical. Looks and feels great too. Looks great in black.

Really Good heavy Coat
I bought my newest sandstone Jackson coat a year ago and it is a Really Good heavy coat. As with ALL Carhartt products it is absolutely tough and long wearing.I live in the northern snow country of Montana and I wear this coat when I will be outside for awhile. I really like the longer length as it keeps the wind from blowing up my back. There are 6 outer pockets and 2 inner pockets which come in very handy for gloves. headwear and tools. I own an Artic quilted jacket that is 15 years old and a sandstone active jacket that is 10 years old and they are still going strong

This jacket is like wearing a Plate of Insulated Carhart Armor protecting you from the outside winter conditions. Not only is this jacket durable and made to last but the fit and comfort is surperb. I do cross country trucking and this jacket allows me to move freely and is so comfortable and warm.

What is the source of this product?

BEST ANSWER: This product is imported.
Hi, i am 6ft3 200 lbs with an atheletic build. Will a large fit ok or should i go for a large tall? I like my jackets to be reasonably longer same with sleeves for more warmth protection.
jayjay on Jul 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Some of our customers that are your height are comfortable in a regular while others fit better in a tall depending on the length of their upper body. Our tall sizes add two inches to the length and the sleeves. The center back length for this style measures about 32.5 inches long for the large regular and about 34.5 inches for the large tall, that is from the bottom of the collar to the bottom of the coat. The sleeves on a large regular measure about 37 1/8 inches and about 39 1/8 inches for the large tall.
