I love this jacket so much. It is the warmest one I've ever owned. It keeps me warm as I'm walking across the campus of UMass. The arms are a little bit long, but I've decided to roll up the cuffs and it's perfect! I would recommend this jacket to anyone who wants to keep warm this winter!!
Pros-Warm and comfortable. Generous sizing, can put hood and layers under it. Love the colors offered. Cons-NO two way zipper, which is a must! Riding, getting in and out of pickup made uncomfortable without two way zipper. When will Carhartt get this figured out? -It is rather big at waist and hips, which allows cold wind in. I can overlook that with layers plus my bibs, but I am going to put a two way zipper in it.
So comfortable and warm for cold chore days. If you wear a medium shirt size, order a medium jacket. They are roomy so don't think you need to order a size bigger because it is a jacket and you might want to wear a sweatshirt under it. I am a size 5 pants, wear medium shirts, and the medium jacket is wonderful It is the best fitting sandstone Carhartt I have had. I can wear a sweatshirt under it or just a blouse and be happy! This is a great jacket to ride in, work in, play in....
Too BIG.. The jacket is not tapered on the sides.. It is very big through the stomach and rib area.. this leaves the jacket to hang open at the bottom.. I am going to try to take it to a taylor to have it taken in on the sides, otherwise I will freeze to death with the cold northern Alberta wind blowing up through the bottom of the jacket. The jacket is well made, comfortable, but just too BIG and bulky around the middle.. If I was pregnant it would be a perfect fit.
I am very thin with narrow hips. This jacket is made for big hipped or pregnant women. The shoulders fit good, but I could literally fit a basketball up under the zipped jacket, it was so large around my hips. At my hip bones I am 32" around, the bottom of this jacket is 46"!! Check your hip measurements and decide if you want that much cold air coming up inside your jacket! I'm highly disappointed in this design, especially since its the only jacket in brown!
The temp rating all depends on what you are wearing underneath the jacket and what you are doing while wearing the jacket. Shoveling snow with a sweat shirt underneath you are good to 10 degrees. Sitting in the bleachers watching a football game same sweat shirt. 30 degrees. Hood does not remove. Its a great jacket. Rugged and the girl friend loves it.
Hood is Not detachable. However the hood does lay nice and flat, is somewhat square at the brim, and the hood is ample size to keep the head and face warm. With a light sweater it should feel warm down to 20 degrees F chill factor. The material that this jacket is made of is very comfortable, rugged, and durable.
