The material these shorts are made of is the right weight for hot summer days (also for cool spring or autumn days). The cargo pockets are just right: large and roomy. I like the rugged snap fasteners on the rear pockets and cargo pockets. I really wish I could rate these shorts five stars. But with the sub-minimal front pockets, I can't. My main gripe with the front pockets: they are much too small, too shallow, and an odd triangular shape instead of squared- or rounded-off bottoms. I had to make and sew in heavy cotton-duck pocket extenders to make the front pockets practical. (I figure these shorts are worth the sewing work, as they are excellent in other ways.) Also, why couldn't Carhartt have made the pockets (including the rear pockets) out of the same sturdy material the pants themselves are made of? If Carhartt were to make the pockets out of sturdy duck material, and the front pockets deeper and larger, I would be glad to rate them five stars.
