Excelent cold weather protection.
Pros:
It keeps you warm no matter what.
Tough, made to last.
Cons:
Not very flexible, not very comfortable.
The brass zipper should be better covered. You have to be careful not to scratch the surface that you are close to.

It's a long review, but be patient
I have worn this coat in temperatures down to -35 Fahrenheit without including wind chill factor, this coat will keep you warm, especially if you understand how layers work. For the record though, I'm pretty warm blooded and don't get cold easily but if you'll take the time to learn how your body handles frigid temperatures, and you layer accordingly, you'll be fine.

Fit
Not sure for you, but I got the 2xl tall since I'm 6'8 and need the sleeve length, as well as extra room for my bulky heavyweight vest when needed. It fits perfect how I want it, just go to the store and try it on for Yourself

Appearance
It's a coat, needs to be warm not fancy

Durability
Don't get sparks on it, but otherwise the nylon handles thorns and sagebrush well, zippers are tough

Quality
If it sucked I wouldn't use it, great coat for cold weather

Comfort
The coat is stiff, but I like heavy durable material. I'll say it again, it's a warm coat. If you layer right doubly so. Warm and dry is more comfortable than soft stylish fabric, don't buy a coat to look nice, buy it to stay warm

Conclusion
No it's not cheap, but frostbite/hypothermia/pneumonia is not worth a cheap coat when your cold and wet for long periods of time outside.

if it doesn't get much colder for you than anywhere between 37-15 Fahrenheit this is still a solid choice as nylon won't get wet like cotton will, and wet cold is more dangerous than dry cold. you just won't need the layers like you will in much drier colder temperatures. go read "US cold weather doctrine" online for more info.

great!! will buy It again if mine ever dies
I got this coat last year. It was very difficult to move in at first but after the first month and the first threw the wash it freed up. I have run this coat over lots of sharp things that would easily tear up any other coat. I have been in rainstorms and stayed dry. I have been outside at 0 degrees F with a wind of 10 mph with just a sweatshirt underneath it and loved it. I liked how they designed it big to fit lots of layers under it. My only complaint is that it is noisy to move in. That never struck me until I was siting in the deer blind on opening morning. But hey it was never advertised for hunting.

The best arctic coat.
This replaces my C003 that I had for over 10 years, holes in the sleeves and finally the zipper broke. I prefer the Cordura. They run a size large, so just size down. As others have noted you need another layer underneath for additional warmth, for the coldest days. The same sized Paxton zip front heavyweight #100614 is a great combo, you can just leave it inside the C55.

Carhartt quality, none better.

This coat is great! I could not be happier with it. I work for BNSF Railway in the Pacific Northwest and need a durable coat for working around railroad equipment. It is also fits well with layering, although it is warm enough with just a sweatshirt when the temperature is around the freezing level.

Does this coat have the gray and black logo as pictured or the traditional yellow logo patch? I recently bought one somewhere else expecting the gray logo and received it with the yellow logo. I'm looking for one with the logo in the picture.

Does this coat have the black and gray logo as pictured or the original yellow logo?
A shopper on Dec 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Things like the color of logo patches, pocket linings, etc., are considered trim items that are subject to rolling changes. For the C55, we have moved into the white/yellow label. The gray label depicted is actually an older style and will be updated on our site. Please note, when we make these types of changes, there may be mixed stock in our warehouse, so you may end up with one or the other version.

What is the difference between the C003 and C55?? Which would be the best for working outside and subjected to a cold environment?
TJTroia on Dec 23, 2016
Extremes Coat/Arctic Quilt-Lined
Extremes Coat/Arctic Quilt-Lined
Duck Traditional Coat / Arctic Quilt Lined
Duck Traditional Coat / Arctic Quilt Lined
BEST ANSWER: Both styles feature our warmest linings. They are made of different material, C003 is made of cotton duck and C55 is made of 1000-denier Cordura® nylon. Both are very durable. C003 is made od duck fabric that is treated to be water repellent. The treatment is similar to Scotchgard and will wash out over time, however it can be treated with any after market water repellent solution that is marked safe for cotton (scotch guard, nikwax). Style C55 is water repellent and the water repellency would last longer than the C003.
What is the warmest jacket?
Erik B on Dec 18, 2016

BEST ANSWER: We apologize, we do not offer a similar style in women's.
Just bought the c-55, very stiff, anyone have a remedy to soften the coat material ? ?? Will washing it a few times help ?? Dryer ??
weston on Dec 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This style breaks in as you use it. Washing it would not make it soften much.
Are there any plans to make this coat in womens sizes? Women work in cold wet conditions and the other womens carhartts just aren't as warm as the mens.
A shopper on Dec 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We appreciate your feedback and will forward your suggestion to our Product Design Team for future consideration.
c55 or j133 which is the warmer coat?
A shopper on Dec 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: They both have the same type of outer shell and the same type of insulation. We would consider them to be equally warm in terms of the materials. The J133 is shorter and has a hood attached; the C55 is a bit longer (more coverage) but does not come with a hood.
When will Carhartt offer this jacket in medium long?
