GREAT JACKET W/1 SMALL? GRIPE.
Ok so I DO LIKE THIS JACKET,The only thing I do not like about it is the zipper cover flaps,I wish they were larger and or probably one would need to go over the other. As it is the two flaps do not quite come together and so they leave a gap where air can get through the zipper, may seem like a small thing, but I feel the draft and do NOT like it.I have had jacket for about a year now,I noticed the zipper gap thing right away, rather than the flaps laying flat, they stick out at an angle,I WAS HOPING THEY WOULD FLATEN OUT/ come together AFTER SOME USE,but it has not happened yet :(
IF Carhartt would fix this I would be 100% happy about it ,rather than 90% happy.

Always warm
First bought this coat with some regrets due to the stiffness of the fabric and just figuring it wouldn't keep me warm here in the nice cold Minnesota winters. But after a few times out with this coat and it has changed my mind and everything I might have once thought about the coat. This coat is very warm and does great here in the wind and snow that we have been having of late. Today was one of the windiest days on record here in Minnesota and I can honestly say I was hot with this coat on and the temps never got above 5 degrees.

This coat is well worth the money and the little bit of stiffness that you have to deal with just remember this coat keeps me warm here in Minnesota it will work for you in your state.

Perfect in Every Way - Best Ever
I have had another Arctic-Quilt jacket in a dark green color ( no longer available) for more than 10 years. It is still in perfect shape and the warmest coat I have ever had. I have had jackets costing more than twice as much that I gave away as they did not live up to their advertised warmth. I just ordered another one in black to wear for a dressier look to work in office building. The quality of these jackets is unsurpassable which makes for the best value available anywhere.

Best Bang for your Buck!
I owned this style coat, working outdoor ground up construction in sometime -20 degree weather. the coat lasted me 13 years and I never felt the cold once. I wouldn't recommend anything different. Best jacket/coat I ever owned.

6 Years Goin Strong
I have worn this coat for six years almost daily when cold. The only thing that has lasted even close to this long is a pair of red wing boots. The coat is very warm although you still need to layer when its in the teens and below. I do remember it being stiff when i first got it, but now its the most comfortable coat Ive ever owned. The claim to fame for this coat, is its durability. Seriously, Ive had it for 6 years and the only damage on it is a cigarette burn on the inside liner. It is tough. I also had the normal sandstone carhartt that I bought at the same time as this one and it is tattered and stained now, while the Artic still looks clean. I really cant give this coat enough praise, it has kept me warm for years in northern michigan frigid temps and conditions. Keep in mind It is a working coat for cold temperatures. Is a tad short on the waist and they run large so keep that in mind.

If you're on the fence about this one, Just buy it. I promise you that it will be the best coat you will ever buy.

Exemplary quality
I've owned one of these jackets for over 6 years. And you really can't find any other products that have stood the trials of time and vigorous work that some of us folks actually put into these items. You've got a customer for life out of it.

I like it to an extent, I'm comparing J133 vs J140
I have both the J133 and the J140 jackets. I personally like the J140 style better and here's my reasoning..

-I like that the J140 is flannel lined vs the quilt lining on the J133 style because the flannel lining never gets cold and the quilt lining does.
- on the J133 style when it's very cold outside it's very stiff and it sounds like a waterproof tarp when you try and move in it. Vs the J140 style is not like that.
-I do give it the upper hand on how the water resistant it is.

Don't get me wrong, it is durable, but it's not as comfortable when it's very cold and it's harder to move in it. The quality of the materials is great. Mine has never ripped. It's a great jacket, but I personally like my J140 more

An okay purchase.
I was in desperate need of a new jacket and carhartt has a wonderful reputation for their durable and warm jackets. With that being said I started looking for jackets and came across this one. Overall this jacket is very warm and durable! The only complaint I have is that it is SO stiff. If you want a durable jacket your going to have tough fabric.. I have only worn it a few times and it is already starting to loosen up. Another thing is you should be really careful when choosing the size. I am 5'11" so first I got the Large/Reg I got it and it was so baggy. I sent it back and got a Medium/Reg and it fits perfect. Overall this is a very nice jacket.

But the J140 says it's water repllent. Why is a staff person saying it's not?
A shopper on Dec 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Style J140 is made of Duck fabric that is treated to be water repellent. The treatment is similar to Scotchgard and will wash out over time, you are welcome to treat it with any after market water repellent solution that is marked safe for cotton (scotch guard, nikwax). We apologize, for the confusion. We are working on updating our website.
to what temperatures can the insulation of this jacket provide sufficient comfortable working conditions? I live in conditions that reach -40°c.
A shopper on Dec 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We do not temperate-rate our garments, but the arctic quilt lining is the warmest insulation we make.
How much warmer is the j133 over the j140 ?
A shopper on Sep 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We do not temperature-rate our garments. However, the J133 features the Arctic Quilt lining, which is our warmest insulation. The J140 features a Quilted Flannel lining, which is the second warmest. Something else to consider is the outer shell. Both outer shells are tough, but the J133 has a water repellent heavy Cordura nylon. The J140 has our rugged 100% cotton duck fabric and is not water repellent.

Debbie H on Sep 22, 2016

How comfortable is this jacket to wear?
Johnn on Dec 15, 2016

I do not see where it states if it is wind resistant. Is the J133 jacket wind resistant?
Wayne A on Jan 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: We do not consider this to be a wind-resistant jacket. That being said, it is a very tightly woven Cordura nylon which should help block the elements.

A shopper on Sep 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, it does not. However, you may wish to check out the C55. It has the same type of Cordura nylon exterior and arctic weight insulation and doesn't come with a hood. It is a longer garment and is a coat rather than a jacket.
