confused about size chart
I ordered a pair of the unlined bibs in black a couple of years ago. The quality & durability is terrific. I already knew what size I wear from purchasing other bibs before. The size chart or even the Carhartt fit guide recommend I wear a 38 waist x 28 inseam, (wrong). I wear a 48 (big Stomach) x 28 inseam (short legs), Translated is a 48 x 28 or 2XL short even though I'm 5' 9" tall. I have a long torso & short legs. In a pair of Wrangler jeans I wear a 38 waist x 29" inseam. My advice is to measure around the biggest part of torso (chest or stomach) and take your inseam measurement & use that as your size.
Other than sizing the bibs are the best you can buy for the money!

You gotta try these
I bought a pair of these in 2006 to wear working outside in the cool weather. I just bought my second pair, and I'll buy another pair next fall.

The work that I do involves a lot of crouching down and kneeling and getting dirty outside.

Nothing else even comes close. These are so much better suited for this kind of work than ordinary work pants. They do not cramp one's style at all the way pants do.

One observation, the salesman at my local retailer talked me into buying a much larger waist size (42# than my regular waist size #38). I'm glad that he did. The larger size fits comfortably loose but not too loose. That's what the shoulder straps are for, right? The Carhartt "true fit" gizmo seems to advise a person to buy this product sized the same as one's regular pant size. I won't be doing that... so I rated a four-star for fit but really, I got a good fit just by taking some good advice.

Carhartt, please make this product in a lightweight, light-colored ripstop fabric. I'll cheerfully buy and wear them at work when it gets hot again.

These make me love wearing overalls
I have owned and worn overalls since I was a kid but never really cared for them all that much. I bought this pair from Carhartt after falling in love with my Chore Coat and realizing the quality of their clothing. These are awesome for so many different jobs - construction, farm, or just chores around the house and yard. They have held up great. I have owned my pair for over a decade and they are comfortable and of course have a lot of "character" from many years of use. The elastic shoulder straps are still stretchy, the knees are double lined and still holding up. Give them a try and I think you too will find them to be a great addition to your work wear wardrobe.

Waist Adjustment Sizing, Etc.
Please consider adjustment of upper waist sizing buttons. Ordering Instructions for proper fit are fine, except for top set of buttons. Unless you're skinny "with no chest", the top set of buttons are a tight fit (while the lower waist buttons are perfect). I'm not a body builder, but I'd prefer not to increase the overall bib sizing and suffer from baggy butt syndrome. One other "sticky" point is the shoulder strap "hooks". They work fine, but they get caught in my ZZ Top length beard. The old button style are more beard friendly.

Fit is weird.
Carhartt recommends getting 4 inches more in the waist and 2 inches shorter than your actual inseam. I'm 6', 160 lbs and wear a 32x34 Carhartt pant so I bought a 36x32 overall. I now own a pair of Carhartt Bib Knickers. The legs hit just above my ankle and the suspender straps are maxed out. They are also very tight in the crotch area.

I'd recommend buying 4 inches more in the waist and inseam than your usual size.

Great bib!
I purchased this bib 8 months ago and it has been well worth the money. The bib is of very durable construction and has stood up to the grind of my job. The knees are double lined which is great because I have to crawl around a lot. The straps and buttons are also durable and have stood up to tearing and pulling.

Unfortunately, when I washed the bib it shrank a bit and now I look like I have highwaters on. Not a problem when I'm wearing workboots, but it gets annoying when I have shoes on.

I would recommend getting a size or two larger so as to fit over jeans, pants, shorts, etc.

Great product and I will definitely get another pair when these are destroyed. Might be a few years though!

Great Overalls, will shrink.
I have owned 2 pairs of these overalls for several years, along with my many other Carhartt products, and I most say they are top notch.
I am a Journeyman lineman, and when ever I get a new apprentice the first thing we do is drive to the store and buy them a pair even if I have to lend them the money. I teach my apprentice to do things right and the correct clothes is the first step, dress like pro you will be a pro, dress safe and we all go home.

The only draw back to these coveralls is sizing, and its not really a drawback more of something to be aware of. This is not the time to try and flatter yourself by getting the wrong size coveralls, lets be honest are you really a 34 inch waist or are you sucking in a bit when you put your pants on.

So be sure to ADD 1 SIZE IN LENGTH and 1-2 SIZE IN WAIST.

You will need this for shrinkage and any extra layer you will have under the overall, because most of us will have shorts or long johns underneath.

Do yourself a favor spend the few extra bucks and don't buy that cheep thing from wally-world, these will save you in the end when your not replacing them in 6 months.
Final note there a few reviews on her saying there overalls are wearing out fast, call Carhartt they stand behind there products.

Men's Duck Bib #: R01
These bibs are great; love them. They have the tough design and quality details of Carhartt heavy-duty construction clothing but with a softer, prewashed material. This material is thick and strong yet feels plush and comfortable on delivery.

I prefer the darker colors (e.g., forest green and black) that don’t show stains. Whether you’re a hard-working construction guy, a gentleman farmer, or a couch-monkey watching the game, these overalls will meet your requirements and exceed your expectations.

There are many pockets, material-doubled friction areas (like knees), and dense sewing with rivet-reinforced stress-points. Plus your pants won’t fall down with the wide suspenders. Notably, the bib protects your shirt from dread ‘dip-drip’ and ‘ash-burn.’ Just wipe with a damp sponge and they are ready for the next bucket of mud, latex paint, and dressed Po-Boy sandwich or the sports game, cigar, and seven-layer dip.

These overalls are suitable for year round use. Add a warm shirt in the Fall, long-johns in the Winter, short sleeves in the Spring, and go ‘commando’ in the Summer. The black pair even transforms into an American ‘Workers Tuxedo’ when combined with a starched white shirt and black bow tie. ;-) They would also make excellent survival clothing in times of disasters.

Bottom line: Try these Carhartt overalls and you won’t want to wear anything else. You will order more after you buy your first pair.

PS: Remember to stuff the suspender hooks and buckles into the breast pockets before washing to avoid them clanging around in the drier.

Enjoy,
Bear

What is the loop above the back pocket for?
A shopper on Jul 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The loop that is connected to the center-back seam and the back-right pocket of some bib overalls, including Style R01, is called a brush loop, and was originally used by painters to hold a paint brush.
